Aims of the Institute

The de Borda Institute aims to promote the use of inclusive voting procedures on all contentious questions of social choice.

This applies specifically to decision-making, be it for the electorate in regional/national polls, for their elected representatives in councils and parliaments, for members of a local community group, for members of a company board, for members of a co-operative, and so on. The appropriate methodology is the Borda count or rather, its modernised form, the Modified Borda Count (MBC) or "Borda preferendum"; (it is also known as consensus voting).

It’s a bit like a sports league in which the winner could be the team which wins the most matches, (Condorcet); or it could be the team which scores the most goals, (MBC). In most seasons, both systems will give you the same winner: in 2008, for example, Man. Utd. got the most wins/draws (Condorcet), and it also finished up with the best goal difference.

A Condorcet looks at all policy options in pairs: and the option which wins the most pairings is the winner. While as noted above, an MBC is a points system.
